On February 23, 2017, five committee members of United States International Trade Commission (ITC) voted on the industrial damage involved in the final stage of the “anti-dumping and anti-subsidy” case of truck and passenger car tires that China had exported to the U.S., with a 3:2 result supporting that the truck and passenger car tires that China had exported to the U.S. had not caused any material damage to or threatened to damage the industry in the U.S. In handling this case, China’s tire industry obtained strong support from national ministries and commissions, business association, teams of lawyers, etc. Unprecedented unity was seen throughout the industry. The association actively organized companies to prepare materials for responding to lawsuits, went to the U.S. to lobby dealers, organized defense teams and recommended witnesses for appearing in court, finally winning victory of this no damage counterpleading of the “anti-dumping and anti-subsidy” case of truck and passenger car tires. Meanwhile, tire companies also need to treasure the hard-won victory, accelerate their transformation and upgrading, speed up their adjustments in product structure by smart manufacturing and “going global”, advance differentiated innovation of products and global layout, strengthen self-discipline and increase competitiveness in the industry.
