BUCT Developed a New Preparation Method for Modified SBR

Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) developed a preparation method for modified styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) with high wet-skid resistance. This method adopts free radical polymerization. The component and weight percent of each unit are as follows: styrene 15%~28%, butadiene 70%~80%, 4-vinyl pyridine 1%~5%. The polymerization is initiated by redox system; the temperature shall be 50℃~80℃; and the percent conversion shall be 70%~85%.
By this preparation method, the modified SBR has high glass-transition temperature, and when applied to the tread rubber, it will improve the tire’s performance of wet skid resistance and increase the wear resistance on low rolling resistance basis in the meanwhile.
